The Philadelphia Phillies are a Major League Baseball team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They have won two World Series championships in their history. The first was in 1980 and the second was in 2008. The Phillies have also won seven National League pennants and eleven division titles.
The Phillies made it to the World Series again in 2022, facing off against the Houston Astros. The Astros took down the Philadelphia Phillies in six games to win the second World Series championship in their history. The Phillies were hoping to win the third World Series championship in their franchise’s 139-year history as they faced the Houston Astros in a seven-game series beginning Friday, October 27, 2022.
The team secured their second World Series title ever, alongside throwing the first combined no-hitter in World Series history in Game 4.
The Phillies struggled at the start of the 2022 season. On June 3, and at a record of 22–29 (.431), manager Joe Girardi was fired, and Rob Thomson, their bench coach, was named their interim manager.
