Roger Maris in Hall of Fame

Roger Maris was a baseball player who played for the New York Yankees and other teams. He is best known for breaking Babe Ruth's single-season home run record in 1961. He hit 61 home runs that year, which was a record that stood for 37 years until Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa broke it in 1998.

Maris won two American League Most Valuable Player awards during his career. He was also a seven-time All-Star and won three Gold Glove awards for his fielding. Despite these accomplishments, Maris has not been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Maris would be a very unusual selection for the Hall of Fame. He does not have the career milestones, and his short peak, while very good, was not excellent. He doesn’t really have a long peak either. His best argument comes from his two MVP awards and for breaking Babe Ruth’s single-season home run record .
